The Importance of Water

Physical fitness and nutrition are very important to me.  One key component to nutrition is a sufficient daily consumption of water. The human body is approximately two-thirds water. So many people consume insufficient amounts or no amount of water at all.

There are two schools of thought on an adequate amount of water consumption. The first theory states that one should consume eight glasses of water each day. This would mean drinking sixty-four ounces of water each day. The second theory states that one should use the following formula in water consumption: your body weight in pounds divided by two equals the amount of water you should consume in ounces. In other words, if you weigh 200 pounds, you would divide 200 by 2, which would equal 100. Therefore, you should consume 100 ounces of water each day.

I believe the second theory is more beneficial because it is directly proportional to your body weight. Since the human body is nearly two-thirds water, the more you weigh, the more you should consume.

Water is so important to the body because it flushes your system, moisturizes your skin, and suppresses your appetite. Proper amounts of water consumption can aid in a regular elimination system, weight loss, and overall improved health.

Some individuals like to substitute soda or coffee in place of water in their daily diet. These beverages contain things that are not beneficial to your body. Some examples would be high sugar content, or high fructose corn syrup, preservatives and much more. Lots of other beverages cause your kidneys to work harder and water helps to dilute and flush your system out. If you choose to consume these beverages, you should still consume your allotted amount of water.

Drink Up!
